Who?

In this strange world my name is Samuel Marshall and this website is an ongoing project based on photographic art and stories form my urban exploration adventures.

If you met me you would never suspect that I could be behind all this, most people would even say that I am a respectable citizen...

What?

The term Urban Exploration explains itself doesn't it? We seek out and explore underground tunnels and networks, active as well as abandoned infrastructure, rooftops or anything else that takes our fancy, basically there are no rules and we make it up as we go.

Why?

The straight forward answer: We do it for adventure, for the challenge and because it is fun. My world is a playground in which I never have to grow up.

The philosophical answer: Buy me *several* beers and I'll explain this one to you in great detail...

The practical answer: It is so accessable; there are virtually no entry requirements and the plaground is right outside your front door.

I take photos on my adventures because I'm interested in photography and the challanges it presents. In the forgotten places of this world, I find an endless supply of interesting subject matter.

This site

So what is this arty shit? Show us epic locations!

My philosophy in the art gallery is to put up photos that stand up in a purely artistic sense, but also photos which are taken in interesting locations. So you're going to have to think, it might not always be obvious. If I can give you some advice about browsing this site; really look at each photo, take time to see where it is taken and what is in it, you will get a lot more out of it, there is a reason I posted each one which may not be obvious on first glance.

You may use content or photos from this site for purely non profit applications as long as I am credited and this website is referenced. For all other applications you must have my expressed permission.

Legal?

We're not hurting anyone... so why would anyone care?

Contact

If you feel compelled to contact me, try this email address: marshall (dot) urbex (at) gmail (dot) com.

I do sell prints every now and then so send me an email and tell me what you’re after.

If you’re contacting me about a guide or access details to the Paris catacombs, you can give me a try but don’t be hold you’re breath for a response.

In general I explore with people I know and trust but I’m always happy to meet new people. So if you’re capable and not too socially retarded :), flick me an email, you never know I might even respond. If you've just seen this site and decided urbex might be for you please don't be offended if I don't invite you along to my next expo. Go out there and have a look around first, maybe think about proposing me an expo, or at least indicate to me in some way that you're motivated. Remember, I'm not a tour guide.

Finally, if you're ready to dive headlong into the cesspool of exploration related internet forums, you may find me posting the odd smart ass remark here and there.

Thanks

Firstly to the people in my life who accept and support my insane exploits.

Secondly to all the talented and dedicated explorers out there that I have met and to those who I am yet to meet, thanks for the good times.

Special thanks to Quantum-x and dsankt who inspire me to do bigger and better things every day.

What now?

If you are so inclined, you could hook up the photoblog RSS and exploration RSS feeds and new content will be delivered to your virtual doorstep. You could always befriend me on flickr, follow me on twitter or stalk me on facebook. Whatever takes your fancy really.

But I personally suggest taking a look at some of the links on the right... there are a lot of talented people out there.
