I had been waiting three years to see this place. When I first saw a photograph of this turbine hall I knew I'd have to get to it one day, hopefully before they started demolition.
Well I beat the professional demolition crew, but the amateurs were hard at work. Copper strippers. Wondering up to the building through the truck size hole in the fence should have been a clue. Once inside it was like a workshop in full operation with about three groups of people smashing their way through equipment to extract the copper. They pretty much kept to themselves and continued working as I passed through. Not much bothers me but I have to admit, wondering around the turbine hall with 3000USD worth of camera gear and several groups of copper strippers eying me off, I was getting a bit nervous.
Big thanks to Yaggy for the good times.
East Coast, USA.
Sad to hear about this. It was going on in Bethelehem Steel too.
