Scattered around France there are hundreds of former stone quarries, this one was used extensively by German, French, British and Australian troops in WW1 (obviously at different times). The writings on the walls from the troop has lasted surprisingly well and it was really interesting wondering around and imagining what it must have been like down here during the war.
This is a junction not far from one of the entrances used in WW1. The small hole near the roof where the light is coming from is a machine gun post which had a clear view of anyone coming down the passage way.
Fantastic place.
